The Yale Prison Education Initiative will offer two Yale accredited courses at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution for 2019 Summer Session B. Read below for our course descriptions.
The two classes that will be offered are Sociology S151: Foundations of Modern Social Theory taught by Todd Madigan and Art S111: Visual Thinking taught by Diego Palacios & Suzanna Zak.
Sociology S151: Foundations of Modern Social Theory
Major works of social thought that articulate the core ideas of sociology, with culture in capitalism and justice beliefs as a guiding theme. Attention to social and historical contexts, conceptual frameworks and methods, and contributions to contemporary social analysis. Writers include Hobbes, Locke, J.S. Mill, Rousseau, Marx, Durkheim, and Weber.
Art S111: Visual Thinking
An introduction to the language of visual expression, using studio projects to explore the fundamental principles of visual art. Students acquire a working knowledge of visual syntax applicable to the study of art history, popular culture, and art. Projects address all four major concentrations (graphic design, printing/printmaking, photography, and sculpture).
